With this project, RMP constructed the first architectural precast dome in the nation. The benefits RMP provided to the project included architectural flexibility and increased engineering collaboration. Following are some of the interesting technical highlights to the construction of this unique project:

  • Compound radii molds
  • 16 pieces of pie (8 load bearing, 8 non-load bearing)
  • Opposite pieces had to be erected simultaneously with 2 cranes, so the compression ring did not move
  • It only took (2) days to set the Precast compression ring to exact x,y,z coordinates on top of scaffolding
  • Cast-in-place tension ring was set, precast dome pieces were grouted together and when the scaffolding was removed, the dome deflected 1/8″ per calculations
